The demographics of the area have changed in the nearly 20 years we have been established, to the point where our position is highly desirable indeed and has now been extended by adjoining development to have an attractive waterfrontage that afford beautiful views where our residents are able to enjoy beautiful scenery and tranquil surroundings along with a pleasant BBQ area that is enjoyed by all.
We are located within a five hundred meter radius from a new planned medical centre, a Retirement Village and a medium size shopping centre, which also includes an established medical centre. Lions Haven delivers a high standard of Low Care, Ageing in place, and High Care, working closely with the above facilities to deliver the best possible care in the region.
Our residents come from an area beyond the immediate geographic boundaries, largely because of the inviting locality of the facility and the warmth and efficiency of our home. We have received interstate inquiries from people who are prepared to make alternative arrangements as a temporary measure until we are able to cater for their needs in our extended service when we receive the funding being applied for to allow us to open the requested extra 20 Low Care and 40 High Care bed licenses in addition to our existing 61 low care beds.
At Lions Haven we have a flexible staffing mix to enable the care needs of the current residents to be more than adequately met and we will continue to do this with our expanded service.
Over 50% of our residents have a diagnosis of Dementia or Alzheimer’s. Our philosophy is such that not all of these residents require housing in a secure unit. We house only 30 % of our residents with such a diagnosis, in our Memory Support Units (which are secure) and the remainder we work with as integrated into our general access places.
Our prospective residents have commented on our newly refurbished facility which offers “exactly what they are looking for “ in that there is a ‘spaciousness in our rooms and generous Public Areas. Lions Haven is centrally located in the heart of the Hope island /Sanctuary Cove area, which is an attractive area to retire.
Our facility has been fully accredited since opening. We have built a name in the region as being very comfortable with high clinical standards and a well-run facility with ageing in place whilst adopting a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Lions Haven for the Aged has been recognised in the past with an Excellence in Care Award from Aged Care Queensland and in 2010, two of its leaders, Marnie Markham, and Tamara Payne were
recipients of the NIMAC “Above and Beyond Award”.
Management and staff are regular attendees at the Aged Care Standards and
Accreditation Agency Conference and other conferences. All staff are given
opportunities for professional development in line with the training analysis
developed during the appraisal process.
In the near future we are looking to build a further new building, which will
have 21st Century technology, which feeds through to the care provided for our
current residents in the existing facility.
Our planned new building will offer the lifestyle, luxury and surroundings of
a five star hotel in a home like environment.
We also provide a room (free of charge) for relatives/representatives of
residents who are palliating so that they may stay close to their loved one
during this time of need.
